Cesar De Alba, the Quarter Horse jockey turned Thoroughbred trainer, had his first career win on Saturday when Seven Oxen ($5.80) prevailed by two lengths in a $20,000 claimer for maidens at six furlongs.
Seven Oxen, a 3-year-old colt, was De Alba's fifth runner since he began training earlier this year. De Alba has two horses in training at Los Alamitos.
As a Quarter Horse jockey, De Alba won 1,031 races, including 90 stakes at Los Alamitos. He retired from riding last December.
De Alba, 37, said he plans to be active at the Del Mar summer meeting that begins on Wednesday.
