Twilight racing Friday at Del Mar, first post 4 p.m. Tidbits …
Race 1 – Seahawk Wave (7) will be tough based on his runner-up finish last out at this class level, $16k claiming N2L. Thinking his price will drop below his 5-2 program odds.
Race 2 – Tristram Speaker (4) is fast and bred for turf. If he puts away program favorite pace rival Tiger Dad (3), Tristram Speaker can post the “upset” as 3-1 second choice in this Cal-bred turf sprint.
Race 3 – Cleveland Cat (6) ran well finishing second in his debut in a race that produced three next-out winners, while program favorite Mainframe Judy (10) worked fast and has a hot trainer-jockey combo in his corner (Peter Miller, Flavien Prat). However, a longshot lurks according to workout analyst Toby Turrell.
In the Daily Racing Form "Del Mar clocker report," Turrell wrote this about the final workout by first-time starter Brickyard Ride (5): “Best drill of the series to wrap things up. Bejarano up. Best of a team over Freedom Ride. RATING: B.” Brickyard Ride at 8-1 is a must-use. Yes, Rafael Bejarano is up.
Race 4 – Took a shot in this Cal-bred turf sprint with comebacker Silky Slew (2). She has won on the course, trainer Andy Mathis can get them ready following long layoffs. Silky Slew is just a shot, for the sake of action, and 4-1 is no bargain.
Race 6 – Distorted Win (1) has more speed than she showed in her debut on turf, she has worked well on dirt and is likely to improve second time out if she breaks cleanly this time. But she faces a tough pace rival in Blue Moonrise (8). If those two hook up, Miss Ava’s Union (10) could mow them down. She was “given” a race last out following a long layoff, and worked well since. Tab for major improvement.
Race 8 – Dawood (5) is an eight-start maiden, but a repeat of either of his last two starts would win this maiden-20 at low odds.
First post Friday, 4 p.m. And a reminder: Saturday is Pacific Classic day.
