Code of Honor, kept on the sidelines this past month to be fresh for the mid-summer Derby, looped around horses in the stretch to win the Runhappy Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday by three lengths.
Under John Velazquez, Code of Honor stalked the pace going in to the turn and then went wide to win the race convincingly. Final time was 2:01.05 on the fast track.
Code of Honor was the third choice in the Travers, behind Tacitus and Mucho Gusto. Those horses finished second and third, respectively.
Code of Honor, who was elevated to second in the Kentucky Derby after the disqualification of Maximum Security, is trained by Shug McGaughey, who was winning his fourth Travers. The Noble Mission colt is owned and was bred by William S. Farish.
