Just two days before a mandatory payout that would likely have attracted a pool of somewhere in the vicinity of $10 million on Sunday, one lucky player solved the Rainbow 6 on Friday's twilight card, receiving a payoff of $2,211,783.62. The Rainbow 6 had gone unsolved for 47 consecutive racing programs dating back to July 6 when hit for $173,583.
According to track officials, the winning ticket was purchased through Twin Spires.
Resident Liberal($13.80), under a perfect ride by jockey Paco Lopez, won the finale to complete the winning sequence. Lopez won three of the six races in the Rainbow 6, also guiding home Sherpa($11.40) in the second leg and Verdict Is In($6.40) in leg four. The ticket was completed by Angelic Knugget($13.60), Native Hawk($11.40) and One Hot Drama($30.00).
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that days’ pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. The carryover jackpot stood at $1,965,546.90 at the start of Rainbow 6 wagering with another $307,901 added to the pool on Friday.
There will still be mandatory payouts in the Rainbow 6, Late Pick-5 and last race Super Hi-5 on Sunday, which is closing day of the 2019 summer-fall meet.
