Pee Wee Reese returned from a six-month layoff to win the Grade 2 Eddie D Stakes by a half-length over favorite Eddie Haskell, who was undoubtedly best. Pee Wee Reese benefitted from a ground-saving trip just off the pace, got through inside in the lane, and held sway. He was ridden by Flavien Prat.
Eddie Haskell, who broke from the rail, was shuffled back along the inside down the backstretch of the five-furlong turf race, lost position, rallied wide and flew late. Stormy Liberal finished third. Pee Wee Rese ($7) is not nominated to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, but owner-breeder Nick Alexander could make him eligible with a $100,000 supplemental fee.
