Explode, the Grade 3 Canadian Derby winner via disqualification, faces older horses for the first time in the Grade 3, $100,000 Premiers. The horse he will have to run down and beat in the 1 3/8 miles race is He's the Reason who looked like he could run all day when he won the $50,000 S. W. Randall Plate going 1 1/8 miles in his last race. Explode is coming off runner-up finish to Five Star General in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby. He lost the 1 1/8 miles race by the smallest of margins.
It will also be interesting to see if Final Jeopardy can rediscover the form that saw him finish second to Code of Honor in the Grade 3 Dwyer. In two subsequent starts he finished third in the Canadian Derby and BC Derby. In both races he was well back early. He could be dangerous if Rico Walcott can get him into the mix early.
Last year's winner Calgary Caper, and runner-up, Brave Nation are also in the five-horse field.
It goes as Race 3 on an 8-race card that begins at 1:50 p.m. Pacific. Post time for the Premer's is 2:46.
Just one scratch: Race 7: (12) Speculator.
The track is fast.
