Elate likely to be pre-entered in both Classic and Distaff, but Classic remains BC target, per Mott

Elate, second on Sunday in the Spinster Stakes at Keeneland, remains intended for a start against males in the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic Nov. 2 at Santa Anita, trainer Bill Mott said Tuesday.

Mott previously had said the Classic's distance of 1 1/4 miles is more appealing for Elate than the $2 million Distaff, which is restricted to females but is at 1 1/8 miles and also is worth one-third the purse of the Classic.

Pre-entries are due Oct. 21, and Mott said he likely would pre-enter Elate in both the Classic and the Distaff since "it doesn't cost anything," but he reiterated that "the mare is going in the Classic."

Elate is currently at Mott's barn at Churchill Downs with assistant Kenny McCarthy.
