Belvoir Bay, who set a course record while beating the boys in winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Saturday at Santa Anita, sold for $1.5 million at the Fasig-Tipton November breeding stock sale on Tuesday night.
Mike Shannon signed the ticket as agent. He declined to identify who he was representing, and said that he was also seeking additional partners.
“You want a share?” he asked a reporter.
Shannon did say that the partnership planned to breed the 6-year-old mare next year, though a stallion has not yet been identified. Bred in Great Britain, Belvoir Bay is by the Acclamation sire Equiano (FR), out of the Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) mare Path of Peace.
Belvoir Bay was sold at last year’s Fasig-Tipton sale for $625,000, to Gary Barber. She made $1.12 million after being returned to the racetrack this year, including the $550,000 winner’s share of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
“She’s the fastest mare in the world,” Shannon said.
