A cold, partly cloudy day for the 11-race card.
The featured third, the $100K South Ocean Stakes, attracted six Ontario-sired 2yo fillies. The favored multiple stakes winner Owlette is going long for the first time, with a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree. The Wesley Ward-trained filly figures to go right to the front under Nik Juarez, who rode Ward's Artie's Princess in a narrow loss in last Saturday's Frost King Stakes.
Gun Society could be the main threat, in her first non-turf start. The Roger Attfield-trained closer has worked nicely on the Tapeta. She's a Dream faded to fifth after leading the way in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, and could be more effective coming from a stalking position. Wake Up Maggie is bred to handle the 1 1/16 miles, the distance over which November Fog just broke her maiden.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover is a whopping $226K heading into the 11th. Dancing Quietly could dominate the full field of $7.5K NW3 types, in his third start off an extended layoff.
The JP6 carryover is $18K.
