Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La., closes out its Quarter Horse meet Saturday night with a 10-race cad that features four stakes, including the $295,890 Evangeline Downs Futurity.
Domishay, the fastest qualifier for the race, and Mr Tereso, who also won his trial, will each be looking for their sixth win on the year in the Evangeline Downs Futurity.
Domishay won his trial for the 400-yard race in 19.81 seconds in the slop, setting the standard during a program featuring nine trials Nov. 22. Jesse Lovario was aboard for trainer Josue Ponce and again has the mount Saturday. Domishay has won five of his 10 starts in 2019. He will break from post 2.
Mr Tereso drew post 6. He won his trial in 20.04 seconds, the seventh fastest time. Luis Vivanco was aboard for trainer Fernando Lopez and again has the mount Saturday. Mr Tereso is 5-for-7 so far in 2019.
The Grand Legend was the fastest qualifier for the $137,020 Evangeline Downs Derby, winning his trial for the 400 yard race in 19.58 seconds Nov. 23. There were five trials for the Evangeline Downs Derby. For the finale, The Grand Legend will break from post 10. Rodrigo Vallejo has the mount for trainer Jimmy Padgett.
The stakes Saturday night come on the heels of another big program at Evangeline. Last weekend, Mardi Gras Paint won the $1 million LQHBA Louisiana Million at the track and Eysa Jess Jumpn won her 10th straight race in the $280,661 LQHBA Breeders Derby. She is 9-for-9 in 2019.
