LIAM'S LUCKY CHARM earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure when dominating the $125,000 Pasco yesterday at Tampa. It was the second time the Florida-bred colt has earned such a figure, having earned a 90 in winning the Affirmed at GP last year at 2, and the effort earned him a berth in a Kentucky Derby prep race in his next start, trainer Ralph Nicks said afterward.
"Either the Tampa Bay Derby, the Fountain of Youth, or the Risen Star," said Nicks.
The 3yo filly counterpart to the Pasco, the $125,000 Gasparilla, was won in a 5-horse photo by TWO SIXTY in what was part of a huge day for trainer Mark Casse. His stable also won the Lecomte at FG with Enforcer and the Sunshine Millions Turf at GP with March to the Arch.
Two Sixty earned a 78 Beyer in the Gasparilla.
The third Saturday stake at Tampa, the $50,000 Wayward Lass, was won easily by JEHOZACAT, trained by Arnaud Delacour. The 5yo Tapit mare got an 83 Beyer.
