Triple Crown nominee Taraz won her two-turn debut on Saturday at Oaklawn, taking the $150,000 Martha Washington by three and three-quarter lengths. For the win she earned 10 points for the Kentucky Oaks. Taraz covered the mile on a fast track in 1:38.69. The race ended at the sixteenth pole, as with all one-mile races at Oaklawn.
Taraz lost her footing at the start as the ground likely broke out from under her, but moved to the lead soon after and set fractions of 23.94 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.50 for the half-mile and 1:12.44 for six furlongs. Florent Geroux was aboard the filly, who is now undefeated in three starts for Juddmonte Farms.
O Seraphina finished second and High On Gin, third, in the four-horse field Saturday.
Cox said no decision has been made on her next start. A video clip of the stretch run can be found on Twitter @DRFRampellini and on Instagram @maryrampellini.
