Kershaw, the 5-year-old gelding, and not the star pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, won his 2020 debut in an allowance race with a $62,500 claiming option in Sunday's seventh race.
Ridden by Abel Cedillo, Kershaw ($12.40) led throughout to win by 3 1-4 lengths over 3-1 Bold Endeavor in the one-mile race. Kershaw was timed in 1:35.60.
Owned by Jay and Julie Manoogian and trained by Phil D'Amato, Kershaw had not raced since finishing ninth in an optional claimer at Churchill Downs last June. Sunday's race was Kershaw's third win in nine starts for the Manoogians and D'Amato since he was claimed for $40,000 at Del Mar in July 2018, a day he won a maiden race at six furlongs by 13 1-4 lengths.
