Victor Flores, the 34-year-old apprentice jockey, led throughout Sunday's sixth race to win a maiden special weight race for turf sprinters with the longshot The Last Ruler ($82.80).
Flores rode The Last Ruler for the first time in the 5-year-old's fifth start, but said he had worked the mare recently for trainer Jerry Wallace.
Flores, who claims a seven-pound allowance, said after the race that has worked as an exercise rider here in recent years. The Last Ruler was his 11th win on Thoroughbreds and fourth since the start of 2019. Flores had his first win in June 2018 at the Alameda County Fair at Pleasanton.
