Tiz the Law, the ante-post favorite for the Kentucky Derby, missed a couple of works this month after he sprung a shoe, but should be back on the work tab no later than Monday, trainer Barclay Tagg said Thursday at the Palm Meadows training center, where he is based this winter.
Tiz the Law won the Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park in his last start on Feb. 1. He worked back from that race on Feb. 10 at Palm Meadows, when he went an easy half-mile in 50 seconds, but he has not worked since.
"He pulled a shoe off," Tagg said. "Fortunately there was nothing there. It was very minor. He galloped two miles this morning. He'll work Sunday or Monday. If it's a downpour on Monday, he'll go Sunday, or vice-versa."
The timing was fortuitous for this minor incident, because Tiz the Law is not scheduled to race again until the Florida Derby on March 28, so he has ample time to get several works in prior to that race. He never was intended for the Fountain of Youth, which is Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
