Mia Mischief, the winner of last year's Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs, won her 5-year-old debut Friday at Oaklawn Park. She was two and a quarter length winner of a six furlong allowance for fillies and mares, covering the distance on a track rated good in 1:10.61.
"It was good to see her win," trainer Steve Asmussen said after the race Friday. "What a lovely mare to have in the barn and what great opportunity Stonestreet has given us."
Mia Mischief ($3) was making her first start for Stonestreet Stables after being purchased at auction in November. Stonestreet elected to keep the mare in training with Asmussen.
Asmussen said Friday plans are to be determined with Mia Mischief.
"Originally, we had planned on using this for the Humana Distaff," Asmussen said.
But earlier this week, Churchill Downs announced the Kentucky Derby - and all of its racing the week of the classic - had been postponed to September.
Mia Mischief won the Humana Distaff last year on the same card as the Kentucky Derby. For her effort Friday, she earned a preliminary Beyer Speed Figure of 88. The number is courtesy of Daily Racing Form.
