Los Al: Workout report for Friday's sixth race

Los Alamitos publicity chief Orlando Gutierrez has studied the seven first-time starters going 300 yards in Friday's sixth race for 2-year-old maidens. All runners must have two gate workouts at 220 yards to qualify to start at Los Al, and Gutierrez has offered an assessment on the recent works.

First post time for Friday's program is 9 p.m., Eastern, or 6 p.m., Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

Friday's sixth and seventh races are for maiden 2-year-olds. The first three selections on the morning-line for the sixth race are Top Model (1) at 5-2, La Reina Del Sur (7) at 3-1, and Halley (6) at 7-2.

Here are some of Gutierrez's thoughts. All workouts are at 220 yards. Horses at Los Alamitos frequently work in pairs in qualifying workouts, by the way.

Top Model (1), March 21, 12.10 seconds - Posted the 2nd fastest of 67 drills when facing the highly regarded Favorite Cartel filly Danjerous. (Top Model) strides strongly to the wire and is a full of run past the wire.

La Estrella Corona (2) - March 19, 12.50 seconds - Had the third fastest of 18 drills when working with Magical Prize. Fast out of gate to open a sizeable lead, she was under wraps the entire way in a very easy drill.

Diva This (3) - March 21, 12.30 seconds - Breaks inward sharply but levels out (about 120 yards from the wire). She completes the drill in solid fashion while edging her workmate, Unstoppable One, by a head. Unstoppable One will debut on Saturday.

Corona Gypsie (4), March 21, 12.50 seconds - Breaks to the inside and appears to get pushed even farther inside by workmate, who also broke inward. Overcomes early trouble with the advantage and cruises to the wire while never asked.

Still Hateful (5), March 21, 12.50 seconds - Breaks sharply to the inside while taking on the very talented Jess Lyndes Reason. Still Hateful levels out and finds herself alongside workmate with jockey encouraging her righthanded.  This is a much better-than-looked work from Still Hateful, as Jess Lyndes Reason posted a time of :12.10 for the fastest workout of morning.

Halley (6), Feb. 29, 12.40 seconds - Filly shows exceptional quickness out of the gate when clocking the fastest of 16 works. She’s very professional throughout while under wraps. She does it all on her own.

La Reina Del Sur (7), March 21, 12.10 seconds - Had the fifth fastest of 67 drills. She veers in sharply at the start, but has a half-length advantage. The queen of the south, as her name translates, shows great stride while only asked once. She finishes 1 1-2 lengths in front of Suite Encounter, who was unplaced last weekend in her debut.
