Los Al: Workout report for Friday's seventh race

Friday's $1 late pick four at Los Alamitos includes two 300-yard maiden races for 2-year-olds, all with first-time starters. Track publicity man Orlando Gutierrez has provided an assessment of the qualifying workouts of the seven runners in the seventh race.

All workouts are at 220 yards. At Los Alamitos, horses typically work in pairs in qualifying workouts. The first three choices on the morning-lilne for the seventh race at Eagle Empire (7) at 6-5, King Relentless (4) at 2-1, and Scatchmen (1), at 6-1.

Here's the rundown - 

Scatchmen (1), March 21, 12.40 seconds - Posted the 13th fastest of 67 drills when working with Druski. Hops a bit out of the gate and breaks to the inside. Jockey uses his right hand and the runner responds with a  strong flurry before drifting in at the wire. 

Royal Racy Perry (2), March 19, 12.50 seconds - Records the third-fastest of 18 works when working with Strange Fellows, who was a troubled second to SC Divas Cartel last Sunday. Royal Racy Perry moves his head in the gate and breaks to the outside to bump Strange Fellow. Royal Racy Perry drifts inside after the start and at times runs with his head up high. The Volcom gelding is outworked by 1 ½ lengths.

Faruk (3), March 19, 12.50 seconds - Equaled the third-fastest of 18 drills. He breaks behind his workmate, Sports Cartel Jr, and responds to rider, engaging workmate with about 100 yards to go. The two continue evenly until Faruk inches ahead of Sports Cartel Jr before winning drill by a head. A very competitive work for both.

King Relentless (4), March 21, 12.20 seconds - Recorded the fourth-fastest of 67 drills when breaking alertly against workmate Captain Obvious. King Relentless accelerates and extends lead at around the 100-yard mark, striding out well approaching the wire. He’ll cross the finish line well ahead of Captain Obvious and gallops out well.

Max Prize (5), March 19, 12.60 seconds - Runner by Fast Prize Cartel had the 10th fastest of 18 drills on March 19. He breaks inside and bumps workmate, but accelerates quickly and opens an imposing advantage. He is asked once midway to stay engaged. A very solid drill.

Magical Prize (6), March 19, 12.90 seconds - Had the 14th fastest of 18 drills on March 19. Breaks awkwardly and to the inside and lugs to the inside with head high. Jockey corrects the colt, who finally finds his stride. He’ll make up about three-quarters of a length on his workmate, Las Estrella Corona, towards end of the work before sailing past her during gallop out. La Estrella Corona runs in Friday's sixth race.

Eagle Empire, (7), Feb. 25, 12.20 seconds - Posted the fastest of 35 drills when working with SC Divas Cartel Man, who won his racing debut last Sunday night. Eagle Empire veers in sharply, but quickly gains his stride. with rider asking for an effort, Eagle Empire maintains his advantage and crosses the wire about a half-length ahead of SC Divas Cartel Man.
