The second of two maiden special weight races for 2-year-olds on Saturday's program is an open race that drew a field of seven consisting of five geldings and two colts going 300 yards.
There will be ample focus on Favorite Doc, a half-brother to He Looks Hot, who won the Champion of Champions in December and was the 2019 World Champion.
They are all first-time starters. Track publicist Orlando Gutierrez has reviewed their recent workouts and his thoughts are presented here. All workouts are at 220 yards from the gate.
Your Painted Fate (1), April 4, 12.4 seconds - This gelding by PYC Paint Your Wagon posted the same time as workmate Nonsense Coronado. Your Painted Fate stood perfectly in the gate. He broke to the inside and was urged while racing evenly with workmate throughout. He crossed the wire about a head behind Nonsense Coronado, recovering the seventh of 48 workouts.
Rice Road (2), April 4, 12.9 seconds - A well-bred colt by Favorite Cartel from a productive female family, Rice Road finished behind Turbulent Kisses in this workout. Turbulent Kisses was a troubled sixth in his debut on April 18. Rice Road stumbled out of the gate and was bumped. He recovered nicely and was encouraged several times to keep pace. He finished nicely and galloped out well after the rough beginning.
Favorite Doc (3), March 21, 12.4 seconds - This is a half-brother to 2019 World Champion He Looks Hot. He worked with the highly-regarded colt Baby Boy Deluxe and left the gate okay before drifting to the inside. He was encouraged a couple of times and responded nicely while keeping pace. Overall, this was a strong workout, the 13th of 67 drills.
Opt Out (4), April 4, 12.4 seconds -A colt by Favorite Cartel, he worked evenly with the Walk Thru Fire colt Apologetic. Opt Out displayed a clean, sharp, very professional work. He drifted to the inside a bit, but otherwise went well with a solid gallop out. He recorded the seventh of 48 times.
First Dash Cartel (5), April 2, 12.5 seconds - In this drill, First Dash Cartel faced Sweet Dalila, who finished second in a maiden race on Friday evening. First Dash Cartel, a gelding by First Prize Cartel, was bumped at the start and was forced to the inside. His rider went to the right-hand twice while First Dash Cartel continued toward the inside while displaying nice, long strides in the second half of the drill. First Dash Cartel finished with the third-fastest of 19 workouts.
Chance to Excel, April 4, 12.8 seconds - A colt by Favorite Cartel, Chance to Excel won this drill against Young Dasher. Chance To Excel broke to the inside and was under a tight hold. The rider did not urge Chance to Excel throughout the 220 yards.
Relentless Six, March 28, 12.6 seconds - A gelding by Hes Relentless, Relentless Six outworked Master K Roll, a colt by Natovas Prince. Relentless Six left the gate swiftly and straight. He worked on his own while floating to the inside, finishing with the 10th of 35 workouts.
