King Guillermo, second to Nadal in the second division of the Arkansas Derby on Saturday, on Sunday was being vanned back to Florida, where he will undergo off-site quarantine mandated by Gulfstream Park for horses who leave that site for Oaklawn.
Juan Avila, via his daughter Tabitha, said King Guillermo had come out of the race well and would go to Gelfenstein Farm in Ocala, Fla., for his quarantine.
Avila said he'd like to go to Churchill Downs "one month or more" in front of the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby.
Basin, second to Charlatan in the first division of the Arkansas Derby, also came out of his race in good shape, trainer Steve Asmussen said Sunday. Asmussen said Basin would remain at Oaklawn for approximately two weeks before going to Churchill Downs, based on the schedule Churchill has set up for horses shipping in from other locales.
