With horseplayers hungry for wagering opportunities due to the limited schedule during the coronavirus pandemic, Charles Town set a handle record when it raced for the first time since March 21 on Thursday night.
The nine-race Thursday card handled $4,330,203, a Charles Town record for a non-Charles Town Classic program. It is the fifth highest handle in the 87-year history of the track, trailing only the Charles Town Classic cards of 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2019.
Charles Town will host another card Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern.
