California-bred speedster Brickyard Ride is a 3-year-old sprinter to reckon with. His starter-allowance romp Sunday at Santa Anita earned a 91 Beyer; he won by nine and three-quarter lengths in 1:09.26 after opening a 10-length lead in a blistering :43.80. The split is noteworthy; sub-44 half-miles are rare for six furlongs at Santa Anita. Brickyard Ride’s half was the quickest for the distance (“fast” surface) since Jan. 31, 2015.
Brickyard Ride's final time is the second-fastest six furlongs of the Santa Anita meet that began in December. (Charlatan, a subsequent Grade 1 winner, went 1:08.85 in February.) Brickyard Ride is a Clubhouse Ride colt owned and bred by Alfred Pais. He is trained by Craig Lewis and was ridden Sunday by Jorge Velez. Brickyard Ride has won two of five.
