Mocito Rojo is now 6-for-6 on the main track at Evangeline Downs after winning a Wednesday night allowance in Opelousas, La. The score came on a sloppy, sealed track, with the winner covering the mile in 1:38.69. Gerard Melancon was aboard for trainer Shane Wilson.
The win was the 18th career victory for multiple Grade 3 winner Mocito Rojo.
Mocito Rojo ($2.60) stalked the pace set by Stephen's Answer, who was pressed by Speedy Fellar through fractions of 25.30 for the opening quarter, 49.91 for the half-mile and 1:14.25 for six furlongs. The eventual winner moved off the rail coming to the quarter pole, then moved to the lead in the stretch. He won by a half-length over fellow stakes winner Stephen's Answer, according to the margins posted on the simulcast from Evangeline.
Mocito Rojo races for Wayne T. Davis. Wilson said earlier this week the horse is a candidate to return to stakes company next month in the Governor's Cup at Remington Park. Mocito Rojo won the race in 2019.
