Remington Park-based trainer Miguel Silva said Friday that Grade 2 winner Sleepy Eyes Todd will likely make his next start in either the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile or the Lafayette. Both stakes are nexth month at Keeneland, where the horse is now based after running fifth in the Awesome Again at Santa Anita.
"We're looking at both races," said Silva, who trains Sleepy Eyes Todd for Thumbs Up Racing. "The horse is not nominated for the Breeders' Cup and in order to run in the Dirt Mile, we would have to pay a $100,000 nomination fee. The other race is the Lafayette that is run that weekend, too. We don't really know what spot we're going to go in. We're going to think about things over the weekend."
Pre-entries for the Breeders' Cup are Monday.
Sleepy Eyes Todd won the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic in August with a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 102. He is a 4-year-old by Paddy O'Prado and overall has won 6 of 13 starts and earned $597,165.
Silva has the bulk of his stable at Remington and later this winter is scheduled to have divisions at Fair Grounds and Oaklawn.
