Roy Cobb, who bred and raced Mr Money Bags, the reigning Texas-bred of the Year, has died, according to a notice from the Texas Thoroughbred Association. He was 76.
Cobb was a resident of Mineral Wells, Texas, and died on Nov. 13, according to an obituary from Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. The obituary also noted Cobb worked for the Dallas Fire Department for 24 years. He also founded an oil and gas company. His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Erma.
Mr Money Bags is a six-time stakes winner who has earned more than $400,000. He last raced Oct. 23 at Remington Park, and ran third in a turf sprint allowance. Earlier in his racing days, Cobb was a co-buyer of a yearling Kip Deville, who would go on to win the Breeders' Cup Mile for multiple owners.
A graveside service for Cobb will be held at 2 p.m. Central on Tuesday, at Oran Cemetary in Graford, Texas.
