Life Is Good earned a 90 Beyer – highest by a California 2-year-old this year – for his debut romp Sunday at Del Mar. The colt won the maiden race by nine and one-half lengths in 1:15.50, the fastest six and one-half furlongs at Del Mar in more than four years.
Bob Baffert trains Life Is Good ($2.40), who broke running, steadied slightly where the chute joins the main track, set fast fractions (:21.80 and :44.84), and won “ridden out” under Mike Smith. Life Is Good’s time for six and one-half furlongs is the fastest at Del Mar since Aug. 10, 2016 when Kafister won a N3X/optional $80k claiming sprint for older in 1:14.73. Life Is Good, a son of Into Mischief, is owned by China Horse Club or WinStar Farm.
