Plans for Senor Buscador, winner of the $200,000 Springboard Mile on Friday night at Remington Park, and Oliviaofthedesert, who captured the companion race for fillies, are to be determined, their respective trainers said Saturday.
Trainer Todd Fincher said Saturday that Senor Buscador was en route to Sam Houston, where Fincher has 24 stalls for the meet that opens in January. The horse was a sweeping, five and three-quarter length winner of the Springboard Mile, and earned a preliminary Beyer Speed Figure of 93.
Fincher said he and owner Joe Peacock, Jr., would be looking at Kentucky Derby prep races for the horse, with all options on the table, including races at Fair Grounds and Oaklawn. Senor Buscador is a son of Mineshaft and a half-brother to Grade 3 Sunland Derby winner Runaway Ghost.
Oliviaofthedesert was a sharp winner of the Trapeze, rolling up the rail for a head win over fellow promising fillies Tiz Splendid News and Simply Sovereign, who finished in a dead heat for second. For the effort, Oliviaofthedesert earned a preliminary Beyer Speed Figure of 78.
Trainer Ken McPeek said Saturday that Oliviaofthedesert will head to Florida for a little break, with campaign plans to be determined. The daughter of Bernardini races for Susan Moulton.
