Trainer Robertino Diodoro said a decision will be made Wednsday morning on whether to send Keepmeinmind from Oaklawn Park to Fair Grounds for the Risen Star Stakes on Saturday or keep the colt at his Oaklawn base for the Southwest Stakes on Monday, Feb. 15.
Keepmeinmind has been aimed at the Southwest all winter but was entered Feb. 6 in the Risen Star because of bad weather forecast for the Oaklawn area. The forecast has only gotten worse since then, and Diodoro said if connections opt for the Risen Star, they'd want to ship the colt by Thursday morning at the latest.
"There are a lot of variables," Diodoro said Tuesday afternoon. "We'll make a decision by tomorrow."
Keepmeinmind finished second in the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity as a maiden and a good third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile before clearing the maiden ranks with a victory in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club on Nov. 28 at Churchill Downs. The colt, by Laoban, got a brief break at WinStar Farm, Diodoro said, before shipping to Oaklawn, where he has trained steadily for his 3-year-old debut.
"His works have just been consistently very, very good," said Diodoro.
