Trainer Leonard Powell claimed the graded stakes-placed filly Nimbostratus for a hefty $150,000 from Saturday's third race.
Previously owned by a partnership and trained by Peter Miller, Nimbostratus won an optional claimer at six furlongs on turf for 3-year-old fillies. Ridden by Abel Cedillo, Nimbostratus closed from fifth in a field of six to win by a neck over Bleu Ballon.
Nimbostratus, a French-bred by Wootton Bassett, has won 3 of 10 starts in Ireland and California. Last September, she was second in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf in her American debut. On Feb. 14, Nimbostratus was third in the Grade 3 Sweet Life Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs on turf.
Powell claimed Nimbostratus on behalf of his wife, Mathilde.
