Valiant Tiberias, a multiple Grade 1-winning Quarter Horse, will be active in one of the five stakes closing out Sam Houston Race Park's season Saturday night. He goes in the Texas Challenge Championship, which rewards its winner a berth into the Grade 1, $250,000 Challenge Championship in October at the Downs at Albuquerque.
Valiant Tiberias makes his Sam Houston appearance in the eighth race, and will start as a strong favorite. His chief rivals include My Fast Prize and Dm La Jolla Cartel.
My Fast Prize exits a strong stakes at Delta Downs, from which the winner returned to account for another major stakes. My Fast Prize is now back at Sam Houston, where he was a winner in April. He's also a winner at the 440-yard distance of the Texas Challenge Championship, via an All American Derby trial win last year at Ruidoso Downs.
Dm La Jolla draws off the rail here, one start after breaking from the fence. He is a fresh horse with speed. This marks his first out in three months.
Other stakes on the card include the $89,189 Sires' Cup Derby led by Watch Him B Famous, who ran a close-up third in last year's Grade 1, $1 million Texas Classic Futurity.
