Barber Road, the runner-up in both the Southwest Stakes and Smarty Jones at Oaklawn, worked Monday morning in his final prep for the track's Grade 2, $1 million Rebel.
Barber Road worked after the renovation break, on an overcast morning that brought some misting rain. He went a half-mile in 48 seconds, breaking off behind his workmate and finishing on even terms with that one under jockey Reylu Gutierrez. Trainer John Ortiz said he caught the horse's final quarter in 23 seconds.
Entries for the Rebel were taken this morning, Monday.
