Oaklawn Park will increase overnight purses across-the-board starting March 11, the track announced Wednesday.
The track is increasing maiden special weight races by $6,000 each, raising their value to $90,000. All claiming and starter allowance races will be raised by $4,000 each in a move that makes the minimum purse worth $29,000. Allowance races are being increased by $6,000 each, making for a minimum allowance purse of $106,000.
The track also is adding the date of Thursday, April 7, after losing Jan. 21 to inclement weather.
“The first half of the racing season has gone extremely well, and we could not be happier to be sharing that success with our horsemen,” Lou Cella, president of Oaklawn, said in a release. “We are particularly proud of the quality of the horses we are seeing on a daily basis, and we are very excited for the great racing to close out our season.”
The meet continues through May 8.
