Bella Dona will attempt to win her ninth consecutive race Sunday during the New Mexico Cup card at Zia Park.
The program features 12 stakes races, with eight for Thoroughbreds and four for Quarter Horses. All of the races are restricted to New Mexico-breds. First post is 12 noon Mountain.
Bella Dona has built her streak in New Mexico-bred stakes - winning eight of them in her last eight starts. She goes in the first Thoroughbred race, the $125,000 Oaks at six furlongs. It's slotted as the fifth race. Bella Dona will break from post 4 in a field of six Sunday. Luis Fuentes has the mount for trainer Simon Buechler.
Bella Dona began her streak in September of 2021. Overall, she is 11-for-12, and this year is 6-for-6. Bella Dona races for her breeders, Robert and Del Rae Driggers. She also is co-owned by Ben Lee Ivey. Bella Dona is a daughter of Attila's Storm.
