The debuting Mr Havercamp duplicated an impressive recent work when he rallied along the inside under Eurico Da Silva to graduate in a seven-furlong maiden special over the heavily-favored Souper Fly Over. Trainer Catherine Day Phillips took her time getting the large 3yo gelding by Court Vision to the races, and he could have a productive future.
Da Silva also won the second, a six-furlong maiden special for 2yo fillies, on first-timer Split the Sea, a Sam-Son Farm homebred trained by Malcolm Pierce. The daughter of Stormy Atlantic is likely headed for the G1 Natalma Stakes here in September.
Gary Boulanger continued his good run this week when capturing a starter allowance aboard My Cantata, who caught the leading Real Coal in the last jump of the 6 1/2-furlong turf sprint.
Nobody won the Jackpot Hi 5 outright, and the carryover heading into Saturday is $398K.
The handle was $3.29 million.
