Apprentice jockey Evin Roman won the third and fifth races in the first half of Saturday's program and has two more mounts to equal or surpass his three-win day on Friday.
Later this afternoon, Roman rides El Huerfano (2) in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap - against Arrogate (yikes!) - and rides Combat Zone in the 10th race for maidens on turf.
Realistically, Roman's only chance this afternoon is with Combat Zone, an 8-1 shot on the morning-line.
Roman was the leading rider at the Los Alamitos summer meeting that ended last weekend. Earlier this summer, he tied for the title with Flavien Prat at the Santa Anita spring-summer meeting.
Roman began riding in California in February.
