Currently "good" on the main track and "good" on the turf courses to kick off the first full week at Saratoga, a card which will begin with the first steeplechase of the meet at 1:00 pm.
The featured 9th is the Grade 2 Honorable Miss, for filly and mare sprinters.
The field of five is led by Paulassilverlining, who is two for two since joining the Chad Brown barn, with both wins coming in Grade 1 races.
She is a hard-trying horse who has won four of her last five races, but she does not hold much of a figure edge on her rivals.
If she is defeated later today, it will likely be by either By the Moon, a former stablemate of hers trained by Michelle Nevin, or the speedy Finley'sluckycharm, who is 8 for 9 sprinting on dirt in her career, with the lone defeat coming by less than a length in the Grade 1 La Brea.
Personally, I prefer By the Moon, who continues to hold good form, has fine tactical speed, and has held her own against Paulassilverlining in the past.
Earlier on the card in race #4 we have an interesting matchup between Emancipation, who is a full-brother to 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb, and Fayeq, a half-brother to the top filly Rachel Alexandra.
Fayeq holds the tactical edge in this nine-furlong matchup, as he has more early speed than does Emancipation, and he did step up his game to defeat maidens in his third career start when last seen down at Belmont.
Emancipation has so far been a late-running closer, though he is no plodder. He caught a nice set up to pull off an upset in his career debut while closing from last to first into a fast pace, but he really improved from that race to close ground into slow fractions in his second start.
