Belmont’s third race had all the earmarks of a loaded 2-year-old straight maiden event with some very well connected first time starters. And who knows, maybe this race - won by the well-bet at 2-1 Prolific, a Bernardini colt trained at Fair Hill by Mike Stidham for Godolphin - might in time prove to be a live one.
But at the moment, I’m not so sure. Prolific’s final time of 1:18.22 for the 6 1/2 furlongs was slow compared to the 1:04.67 non-winners of two claimers went 5 1/2 furlongs in the opener. Unless Belmont’s main track is much slower than thought at this moment, Prolific will probably fall short of cracking even an 80 Beyer Figure.
