The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby had a working list of seven or eight early probables as of Saturday night, according to an official with Remington Park. The mile and an eighth race will be run next Sunday, Sept. 24, on a card of 10 stakes. Entries for the program will be taken on Thursday.
Don Thompson, the stakes coordinator at Remington, said he looks for the Oklahoma Derby field to include B Squared, Battle of Midway, Gato del Oro, Girvin, McCormick, Petrov and Untrapped. There are a handful of other horses being debated for a start, said Thompson, including Guest Suite.
A flight from Southern California is due into the region on Wednesday, said Thompson, landing at the Alliance airport on the outskirts of Ft. Worth, Texas. The horses will then van about three hours to Remington Park, which is located in Oklahoma City.
The $200,000 Remington Park Oaks field is expected to draw champion Champagne Room, said Thompson.
