Monday's sixth race for 3-year-old maiden marks the debut of a new condition at Santa Anita - a race restricted to horses bred by their owners or purchased for $100,000 or less at auction.
The race is expected to be offered about once every three weeks. The sixth race is open and will be run at six furlongs.
Despite the new twist on conditions, one thing is the same - Bob Baffert trains the favorite. With 22 minutes to post, Ax Man (4) is 4-5. Ax Man is a half-brother to Indian Blessing, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2007.
