Sandy's Surprise, who was a dominant winner of the $300,000 Zia Park Oaks in November in New Mexico, is headed back to the Southwest market. Trainer Doug O'Neill said Monday that the filly is being pointed for the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic at Sam Houston on Sunday. She is scheduled to fly in Wednesday.
Mario Gutierrez, who was aboard at Zia, has the mount in the Houston Ladies Classic, said O'Neill. The mile and a sixteenth race for older fillies and mares is the richest Thoroughbred offering in Texas.
The draw for the Houston Ladies Classic and the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Turf will be held on Wednesday.
