Santa Anita: On stretch out, Mapit wins slow maiden mile

Mapit ($13.80) won for the first time in her fifth start in a maiden race for 3-year-old fillies at a mile, albeit in a slow time of 1:40.99.

Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Mapit finished a half-length in front of the second-time starter Tea for Tam in a field of six.

Mapit, by Tapit, races for the Don Alberto Stable and is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. In four starts in sprints in 2017, Mapit's best result was a fourth in a maiden race at 6 1-2 furlongs last October.

There have been slow times on dirt through the first half of the program. In the first race, Blondy's Reward won a $12,500 claimer for fillies and mares who had not won two races in 1:42.15 for a mile.
