Ten races today beginning at 1:20 ET. The $100k Maddie May, for 3yo NY-breds over a one-turn mile has a field of only five and goes as Race #4.
Linda Rice holds a strong hand in the Maddie May with the duo of Split Time and Breezy Gal. They will have to deal with the speed of Under Suspicion, who is stretching out off her maiden win sprinting six furlongs.
Breezy Gal looks like the one to beat based on her recent blowout win in her second career start, for which she earned a Beyer of 74. She faced a weak field that day, but she was impressive and the 74 figure gives her an edge on this field.
Her stablemate, Split Time, hasn't run as fast, but she is 2 for 2 over this one-mile distance, and she won easily both times. She will be catching a fast track today for the first time since her very good debut run sprinting.
The late Pick 4 is a tough sequence, with several large and competitive fields.
Scratch #7 California Swing from race #8, which remains a competitive starter allowance with the ten runners that remain (there is an entry for trainer Michelle Nevin).
I prefer Go Big Or Go Home, who has improved noticeably since switched to dirt for his last three starts. He has to stretch out to the mile effectively today, but his dirt form is solid and he ran well at this level last time, which was his first start off the claim for Robertino Diodoro.
I'm using him mostly with Shadow Rider and Mr. Dougie Fresh.
The 9th race is a sprint for NY-bred allowance horses and it has drawn a solid field of eleven.
I landed on Altesino as a top pick, as he showed some early promise while getting unlucky in the running of his races, and he exits an underrated try at this level last month where he was away slowly from the rail, before trying an outside run around the turn. He can afford no excuses vs. this field, but he is better than he looks and will be a price.
Scratches and changes (there aren't many) are here.
