Luis Contreras was the riding star on the second day of the meet with five scores, which included a flawless steer on Silent Sting in the $125K Queenston Stakes.
The seven-furlong Queenston is an early prep for the $1 million Queen's Plate, and Silent Sting is already proven around two turns, having won the Kingarvie Stakes here in December. Blueblood and Sable Island, the second and third-place finishers, both look like sprinters. The troubled fourth horse, Ellas My Love, seems like a run-on type, which is the case with fifth-place finisher Aheadbyacentury, the '17 Coronation Futurity victor, who figured to need the race.
Stronach Stable owns Silent Sting and Silent Poet, who graduated impressively by 5 1/2 lengths in the sixth race, a five-furlong maiden special. Both are sons of top Ontario sire Silent Name.
Trainer Darwin Banach doubled up with favorites Tripllindee and Executive Sight.
Racing resumes Saturday, when the Jackpot Hi 5 carryover is nearly $10K.
