With the more than week-long heat wave over, beautiful weather is on tap throughout the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday, and there is a lot of good racing scheduled.
Delaware Park is holding its second-best card of the summer and has four stakes topped by the Grade 3, $300,000 Delaware Oaks and the Grade 3, $200,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial, which pits Creative Thinking against Esquisse and Palinodie. I side with Esquisse, hopefully at a bit of a price.
The Delaware Oaks has become a little simpler with the scratches of Gio Game and the Peruvian flash Cascanueces, but is still an interesting race that will give us a better idea of exactly how good Red Ruby is.
The other two stakes at Delaware are the $75,000 Cape Henlopen (Postulation) and the $75,000 Dashing Beauty (Tequilita), which is part of the MATCH Series filly and mare dirt-sprint division.
Parx plays host to a pair of MATCH stakes in the turf-sprint division, the Grade 3, $200,000 Parx Dash and $100,000 Turf Amazon. Expect a big race from Dubini in the Dash when he tales on Pure Sensation and Oak Bluffs.
Laurel Park has carded its richest race of the summer, the $100,000 Stormy Blues, a turf sprint for fillies and mares, and the $75,000 Concern, a seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up. The Stormy Blues looks like a good spot for Smokinpaddylassie to get back on track.
At Monmouth. Supreme Aura will try to win back-to-back stakes in the $100,000 Long Branch for 3-year-olds. He won the Pegasus at Monmouth three weeks ago. Navy Commander could be dangerous on the lead in the short field.
The Long Branch goes as race 3.
