Trainer Dale Romans has nominated eight horses to the Grade 3, $300,000 Super Derby, which will be run Sept. 2 at Louisiana Downs. A total of 30 horses were nominated to the race according to a nomination sheet posted at Equibase.

The Super Derby has been moved back to dirt this year after being run on the grass in a one-year experiment in 2017. The race will be run over a mile and a sixteenth, a change from its last dirt running, which was at a mile and an eighth. 

The nominees from Romans are: Cove Blue, Free Drop Billy, King Zachary, Mr Freeze, Promises Fulfilled, Seven Trumpets, Storm Runner and Tiz Mischief.
