Two good-looking second-time starters won the split of a seven-furlong maiden special for 2yo fillies, races that were taken off the soggy turf.
Artilena went coast-to-coast in the opener, scoring by 11 lengths in a time of 1:25, over a track that was a bit on the slow side. There was only win wagering on the four-horse event. Trainer Catherine Day Phillips gave Eurico Da Silva a leg up on the daughter of Artie Schiller.
Not Orbinary rallied stoutly from sixth and last to take the second by daylight, in a time of 1:25.77. Gary Boulanger rode the daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Orb for trainer Gail Cox.
The flashy chestnut Constantino prevailed in a three-way win photo in a $25K sprint in the sixth. The 8yo was claimed by trainer Will Armata from trainer Norm McKnight.
McKnight claimed the easy fourth-race winner, Springdetti, for $20K. She should take some beating against NW3 opposition in her next appearance.
The handle was just under $1.8 million on the eight races.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover heading into Friday is $397K.
