Gunmetal Gray ran like a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile prospect in the second race Wednesday at Del Mar, winning the one-mile maiden race by more than six lengths in 1:38.60, which was .04 seconds faster than 4-year-old Dabster ran winning the $75,000 Harry F. Brubaker Stakes later on the card.
Including the high-figure romp by Gunmetal Gray, four of the eight highest 2-year-old Beyers this year have been earned by Jerry Hollendorfer trainees.
