Catalina Cruiser drew the outside post 10 and City of Light the rail, so the top two choices in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile on Saturday at Churchill Downs will bookend the field after posts were drawn Monday.
Catalina Cruiser is the 8-5 favorite on the morning line set by Mike Battaglia of Churchill Downs. City of Light is next at 5-2.
The Dirt Mile will be run around one turn this year, owing to Churchill Downs having a one-mile chute.
John Sadler, the trainer of Catalina Cruiser, liked the draw. He'll be in the clear, and is outside his main rival.
Catalina Cruiser has never lost in four starts. This will be his first start outside California.
Ten were entered in the race after several horses who were cross-entered in the race opted, as expected, for other spots, most notably the Breeders' Cup Sprint. Seeking the Soul ended up here after not getting into the main body of the field for the Classic.
The field, from the rail out, is:
City of Light, Javier Castellano the rider, 5-2 morning line
Trigger Warning, Ricardo Santana Jr., 20-1
Isotherm, Giovanni Franco, 20-1
Seven Trumpets, Robby Albarado, 15-1
Awesome Slew, Corey Lanerie, 15-1
Seeking the Soul, Brian Hernanez Jr., 5-1
Firenze Fire, Irad Ortiz Jr., 6-1
Bravazo, Luis Contreras, 20-1
Giant Expectations, Julien Leparoux, 15-1
Catalina Cruiser, Drayden Van Dyke, 8-5
