Midway through Saturday's 11-race program, jockey Tiago Pereira and trainer Phil D'Amato have teamed to win two races.
D'Amato is having an even better day, having already won three races, including the first with Mo Bob, who was ridden Aaron Gryder.
D'Amato and Pereira have one more race together - with Barbara Beatrice in the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint on the hillside turf course. Barbara Beatrice was fourth in an allowance race for California-bred fillies and mares at 6 1-2 furlongs on dirt on Jan. 10 in her first start since May.
A stakes winner in 2017, Barbara Beatrice needed the race, D'Amato said earlier this week. He said the recent race "cleared the cob webs" from Barbara Beatrice. She drew the outside in a competitive field of eight.
