Bellafina ($2.20) led throughout Saturday's Grade 2 Las Virgenes Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, winning the one-mile race by three-quarters of a length despite a late threat from 6-1 Enaya Alrab.
Bellafina was timed in 1:35.91. Enaya Alrabb, second in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos in December, finished 2 3-4 lengths clear of 19-1 Calf Moon Bay, who was followed by Mother Mother and Tomlin. Mother Mother, third in the Starlet Stakes, was within a half-length of Bellafina on the turn but could not sustain the effort.
Bellafina, ridden by Flavien Prat, has won 5 of 7 starts for owner Kaleem Shah and trainer Simon Callaghan and is considered the leading 3-year-old filly in California. The $200,000 Las Virgenes Stakes was her fifth stakes win.
Bellafina was so heavily favored that she drew $391,345 of the $445,214 bet to show.
